Michael Jackson's three kids Needs Their Futures

As a messy battle for custody of Michael Jackson's kids is beginning to look inevitable, it seems likely we'll follow the proceedings with even more scrutiny than might have been expected. To most of us, until last week Jackson's children were more of a concept than actual individuals—glimpsed from time to time, but largely unfixed in our collective imagination. Then Paris, Jackson's 11-year-old daughter, brought down the house at her father's memorial service, and everything changed. If there's one image that stands out, it's of Paris, demure in a black dress with white trim, telling an audience of millions how much she loved her father. As pure theater, her tribute rivals the brilliance of John F. Kennedy Jr.'s salute of his father's coffin. The audience may have gathered to mourn the death of a star that day, but by the end of the memorial a new star had been born.

Sure, some cynics said the appearance was stage-managed by the Jackson family, that the whole display reeked of the sort of child exploitation that led Michael to his grave. And reports that the Jackson family patriarch, Joe, is contemplating a "Jackson Three" tour featuring Paris and her brothers, Blanket, 7, and Prince, 12, in 2010 are certainly disturbing, considering that Michael said his own childhood as a performer was filled with sadness. Also troubling are some of the Jacksons' attempts to pimp out Paris's grief, like La Toya's revelations about Paris's reaction to the sight of her father's body—reportedly Paris said, "He is so cold. He is so cold." A&E had already commissioned a reality show starring Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, and Marlon Jackson before their brother's death; if it goes forward, it seems certain the network will try to orchestrate an appearance by Paris and her brothers.

It's pointless to speculate about the degree to which Paris's testament was rehearsed or coerced. We'll never know, and it doesn't really matter. What matters is what the future holds for her and her brothers in a culture that both fetishizes the children of dead celebrities and treats them with the same ruthlessness as adults.

Shocker! Susan Boyle Falls Short on Talent

Los Angeles (E! Online) – She "Dreamed a Dream," but unfortunately it wasn't enough.

Susan Boyle, the YouTube sensation and Britain's Got Talent hands-down favorite, took second-place in Saturday's finale, falling short to a dance troupe called Diversity.

Boyle's runner-up placement came to the shock of many, including all three judges, who during her final performance hailed her as the best talent to grace the stage.

Following Boyle's swan song, Piers Morgan couldn't hold back, saying, "I'm not supposed to favor anyone, I should be impartial, but you know what, forget it. That was the greatest performance I've seen in Britain's Got Talent history. You should win this competition. I loved it!"

Judge Amanda Holden agreed: "I have never heard such powerful, confident vocals." She even went as far as calling out America's favorite critic, Simon Cowell. "And can I just say, Simon had a tear in his eye and I've never seen that before."

And as far as Cowell was concerned, the entire competition paled in comparison to Boyle's inspirational journey. Said Cowell, "Win or lose, you had the guts to come back here tonight, face your critics, and you beat them. You can walk away from this with your head held high Susan. I absolutely adore you."

Boyle's final appearance awed the crowd with a repeat performance of the Les Misérables classic that made her a household name. The Scottish import belted out "I Dreamed a Dream," this time with extra help from her shimmery floor length gown and the twinkling stage décor in the background. Also noticeably different from previous performances? The poise and confidence exuded by Boyle.

World No Tobacco Day

Cigarette packs will be required next year to display such graphic images as diseased organs in a bid to scare smokers into snuffing out their butts, the government announced Wednesday. Smoking has been banned in public places in Britain, and the legal age for buying tobacco will be raised from 16 to 18 next year.

Michelle Dares to Wear Same Outfit Twice

Michelle Dares to Wear Same Outfit Twice. First Lady Michelle Obama caused quite a stir among fashionistas Tuesday when she --- gasp! --- wore the same dress for a second time in three months.

Michelle Obama takes her role as First Lady seriously. See photos of her in action.
On her first trip to New York since the inauguration, Obama donned a scoop-neck dress that she wore to the prayer service the day after her hubby was sworn in as president.

Obama’s affront to the fashion world occurred during a speech at the U.S. Mission to the United Nations, where she thanked diplomats and staff for promoting her husband’s new foreign policy of global engagement. It's not the first time Michelle has worn the same outfit, she's also recycled a cardigan, a belt and a pair of shoes, among other articles.

Undersea eruptions near Tonga

Scientists sailed out to have a closer look at the eruptions of an undersea volcano off the coast of Tonga in the South Pacific Ocean today. Tonga's head geologist, Kelepi Mafi, said there was no apparent danger to residents of Nuku'alofa and others living on the main island of Tongatapu. Officials also said it may be related to a quake with a magnitude of 4.4 which struck last March 13 around 35 kilometers from the capital at a depth of nearly 150 kilometres.

Baby-faced boy Alfie Patten is father at 13

Baby-faced Alfie, who is 13 but looks more like eight, became a father four days ago when his girlfriend Chantelle Steadman gave birth to 7lb 3oz Maisie Roxanne.

He told how he and Chantelle, 15, decided against an abortion after discovering she was pregnant.

Alfie, who is just 4ft tall, added: “When my mum found out, I thought I was going to get in trouble. We wanted to have the baby but were worried how people would react.

“I didn’t know what it would be like to be a dad. I will be good, though, and care for it.”

Alfie's story, broken exclusively by The Sun today has sparked a huge political storm with Tory leader David Cameron saying: "When I saw these pictures this morning, I just thought how worrying that in Britain today children are having children.

13-year-old father to take DNA test
Baby-faced "father" Alfie Patten today pledged to take a DNA test after two other boys claimed they had also slept with baby Maisie's teenage mother.
Chantelle Steadman, 15, said 13-year-old Alfie is the father of her one-week-old baby daughter.

The news that such a young boy had fathered a baby prompted a fierce political debate over the high rate of teenage pregnancies in the UK and the sexualisation of children.

But yesterday Richard Goodsell, 16, and Tyler Barker, 14, told the News of the World they had slept with Chantelle at about the time she became pregnant and claimed she also had several other sexual partners.

Alfie today said he would take a DNA test as soon as possible to establish whether he is Maisie's father.

Nadya Suleman, OctoMom, Offered $1 Million To Make A Porn

Major porn distributor Vivid Entertainment has just fired off a letter to Nadya Suleman, offering her 1 million bucks to star in a skin flick of her own. Vivid is willing to go one step further, by telling us they'll give her family full medical and dental insurance if she becomes a "contract girl"... meaning she'll have to do multiple videos.

They want Suleman, who gave birth to octuplets in January, to have sex in eight different scenes with eight different men.

"The number eight is obviously heavily associated with her so we would like to work with that," Vivid’s CEO Stephen Hirsch told Tarts. "But we would really love just to sit down and talk with her and come up with something she feels comfortable with. We want her to be involved with the whole thing from the plot line to the packaging."

No word if Octo will take them up on the offer -- but she definitely needs the scratch for a down payment on a house...

In 2008, Nadya Suleman, had the remaining 7 embryos left over from her previous in vitro fertilisation treatments transferred despite being informed that for a woman her age the recommended guideline limit was three. A part of her reasoning for attempting a sixth successful pregnancy was so that the frozen embryos wouldn't be destroyed. Six embryos were transferred and two embryos split into twins, resulting in eight babies.

Suleman octuplets are eight children born to 33-year-old Nadya Suleman on January 26, 2009, in Bellflower, California, United States.

Suleman told a psychiatrist that she suffered deep depression and had suicidal thoughts while trying to get pregnant. Suleman resorted to IVF procedures, using a single sperm donor supposedly named "David Solomon" (a male friend of Suleman) to father all of her children using the services of Dr. Michael M. Kamrava. There is doubt as to whether "David Solomon" is the biological father's true name. On one of the documents of the four oldest children's birth certificates, Solomon lists Israel as his "State of birth."

The Suleman octuplets are the world's longest-living; this was only the second time ever that a full set of octuplets was born alive in the United States. The birth of the octuplets has raised controversies regarding their mother's decision to have a large family without means of independent income and the physician's decision to help her by the use of assisted reproductive technology.

'Slumdog' child actors to get new homes

MUMBAI (Reuters Life!) – The two main child actors from "Slumdog Millionaire" are to receive new homes from the authorities after the small-budget movie swept the Oscars, winning eight Academy Awards.

The Mumbai homes will go to Rubina Ali and Azharuddin Ismail, who played the young roles of the movie's central characters, Latika and Salim, in the rags-to-riches romance about a poor Indian boy competing for love and money on a TV game show.

"These two children have brought laurels to the country, and we have been told that they live in slums, which cannot even be classified as housing," said Gautam Chatterjee, head of the state-run Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority.

Authorities did not say where the home would be only that there would be apartments and near a "prime location."

Ali, 8, currently lives in a tiny hovel in a rubbish strewn slum near railway tracks in India's financial hub. Ismail sleeps under a polythene sheet-covered roof in the same slum. Open sewers run nearby and both homes have no running water.

The movie, based in Mumbai, took home eight awards from the Oscars including best picture and best director for Britain's Danny Boyle.

But in the leadup to Sunday's Oscars, the movie's success around the globe was overshadowed by objections in India to its name which some Indians find offensive, its depiction of the lives of impoverished Indians, and the treatment of the cast.

There was an outcry after pictures emerged of the child stars living in squalor despite the $15 million movie earning about $100 million since its North American release last November.

But since the Oscars, India's media has been caught in a patriotic frenzy and politicians have jumped on the bandwagon to praise Indians involved in the film.

Boyle and producer Christian Colson have flatly rejected claims of exploiting children for the movie.

They said the children were paid above local Indian wages and enrolled in school for the first time with a fund set up to pay for their education, medical emergencies and "basic living costs."

Fox Searchlight Pictures, the 20th Century Film Fox studio behind the film, paid for visas, travel and accommodation for nine children to fly to Los Angeles for the Oscars.

Fish with transparent head

Researchers solve mystery of deep-sea fish with tubular eyes and transparent head.

Researchers at the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute recently solved the half-century-old mystery of a fish with tubular eyes and a transparent head. Ever since the "barreleye" fish Macropinna microstoma was first described in 1939, marine biologists have known that its tubular eyes are very good at collecting light. However, the eyes were believed to be fixed in place and seemed to provide only a "tunnel-vision" view of whatever was directly above the fish's head. A new paper by Bruce Robison and Kim Reisenbichler shows that these unusual eyes can rotate within a transparent shield that covers the fish's head. This allows the barreleye to peer up at potential prey or focus forward to see what it is eating.

Deep-sea fish have adapted to their pitch-black environment in a variety of amazing ways. Several species of deep-water fishes in the family Opisthoproctidae are called "barreleyes" because their eyes are tubular in shape. Barreleyes typically live near the depth where sunlight from the surface fades to complete blackness. They use their ultra-sensitive tubular eyes to search for the faint silhouettes of prey overhead.

Although such tubular eyes are very good at collecting light, they have a very narrow field of view. Furthermore, until now, most marine biologists believed that barreleye's eyes were fixed in their heads, which would allow them to only look upward. This would make it impossible for the fishes to see what was directly in front of them, and very difficult for them to capture prey with their small, pointed mouths.

Robison and Reisenbichler used video from MBARI's remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) to study barreleyes in the deep waters just offshore of Central California. At depths of 600 to 800 meters (2,000 to 2,600 feet) below the surface, the ROV cameras typically showed these fish hanging motionless in the water, their eyes glowing a vivid green in the ROV's bright lights. The ROV video also revealed a previously undescribed feature of these fish--its eyes are surrounded by a transparent, fluid-filled shield that covers the top of the fish's head.

Most existing descriptions and illustrations of this fish do not show its fluid-filled shield, probably because this fragile structure was destroyed when the fish were brought up from the deep in nets. However, Robison and Reisenbichler were extremely fortunate--they were able to bring a net-caught barreleye to the surface alive, where it survived for several hours in a ship-board aquarium. Within this controlled environment, the researchers were able to confirm what they had seen in the ROV video--the fish rotated its tubular eyes as it turned its body from a horizontal to a vertical position.

U.S. rejected Israeli plea to attack Iran

Think:
Since years ago, Israel and Iran are clear enemy and seem no space for negotiation. My opinion both party WILL NOT reach harmony or good relationship until one of them is finished out from this earth with very big war (it may be WWWIII)

President Bush rejected several Israeli requests last year for weapons and permission for a potential airstrike inside Iran, the author of an investigative report told CNN.

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad insists Iran's nuclear program is only intended for peaceful purposes.

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad insists Iran's nuclear program is only intended for peaceful purposes.

Israel approached the White House in early 2008 with three requests for an attack on Iran's main nuclear complex, said New York Times reporter David Sanger. His article appears in the newspaper on Sunday.

According to Sanger, Israel wanted specialized bunker-busting bombs, equipment to help refuel planes making flights into Iran and permission to fly over Iraq to reach the major nuclear complex at Natanz, the site of Iran's only known uranium enrichment plant.

The White House "deflected" the first two requests and denied the last, Sanger said.

"They feared that if it appeared that the United States had helped Israel strike Iran, using Iraqi airspace, that the result in Iraq could be the expulsion of the American troops (from Iraq)," he said. Video Watch reporter discuss why Israel sought U.S. assistance »

Bush, instead, persuaded Israeli officials to not proceed with the attack by sharing with them some details of covert U.S. operations aimed at sabotaging Iran's nuclear ambitions, Sanger said.

The ongoing operations are designed to undermine Iran's ability to produce weapons-grade fuel and designs it needs to produce a workable nuclear weapon, the newspaper said.
